Welcome to Kindergarten!
I want to welcome all of you to school! I really enjoyed getting to meet all of you at Meet-and-Greet and I am looking forward to getting to know your children even better. I feel so blessed to work in such a great school with such a great group of kids and parents. We have a year full of activities planned which I’m sure you will find both fun and challenging for your kids. So I hope all of you have had a very relaxing summer and are ready to get back into the swing of things.
The Romer Review is our classroom newsletter that you will be receiving every Monday. Please take time to read it because it will contain a lot of information about the activities going on inside and outside the classroom as well as homework, projects, and other assignments.
Once again, I am so excited to have you all as a part of our team. I know it’s going to be a great year!
We Are Top Apples!
I just wanted to inform you that we are off to a great start and the children are acclimating well to their new routine. Please be patient with your child’s behavior report. You may see some yellow’s or even a few red’s in the coming days. Please know that this is very typical of kindergarten students as they learn the new rules, procedures, and expectations of “doing school”. However, as you keep reinforcing the school rules and behavior expectations at home, I know this will change. Hang in there!
Homework Assignments
*Letter Recognition and Letter Sounds
This nine weeks we will really be working hard on letter recognition and letter sounds. Our goal is for every child to know all letters (capital and lowercase) and the sounds they make by the end of the nine week period. Please begin working on these at home.
*Sight words
Every quarter your child will come home with a list of sight words to practice. The list will be color coded. This quarter’s words are orange. Orange flash cards to be cut out and saved for practice will be sent home in your child’s Take Home Folder this week. You might want to post these on the refrigerator for nightly practice. A colored sight word bracelet can be earned for each list. Students who are able to master this sight word list by the end of the quarter will earn their orange sight word bracelet. The goal is for each child to collect them all!
Volunteers
Throughout the year I will need volunteers to help out with various activities in our classroom. I will post these needs in our newsletter as they arise. Right now I am looking for someone who would be interested in being our homeroom mother. If you would like to assist our class in this way please send me an e-mail and let me know. If I have many people ask for the job I will draw a name out of hat to be our official homeroom mother and everyone else will be put on a list to be her assistant.
Student of the Week
Each week we will feature one student as our “Student of the Week”. Students will be given a poster to complete for homework at home and bring back on their week to be the featured student. Students will share their poster with the class along with one “show and tell” item of their choice. We will feature our first student the week of August 17th. Look for the poster to be placed in your child’s Take Home Folder. An Introduction letter and the date that your child will be featured will be included.
Transportation
Just a quick reminder that if your child should need to change their usual mode of transportation, please just send me a note for the day that the change will take place and I will be sure to get your child going home the correct way. If you should have any further questions please feel free to contact me.
Name Tags
Please remember to send your child to school with his/her name tag each day this week.
*If you should have any further questions you can send a note in with your child or e-mail me at [email protected].
Have a wonderful first week! J
